Crop, trim and edit animation

Crop, reverse, trim or change the pace of an animation. Use Crop, trim and edit animation locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.

A practical guide

Crop, trim and edit animation

Crop a short animation, select a playback window, change speed or reverse its frame order, then export GIF, WebP or APNG. Set both crop dimensions when trimming the picture area. This is useful for focusing a demonstration or creating a short reversed motion while retaining an animated image format.

  • Crop an animated interface demonstration
  • Reverse a short animation
  • Create a faster excerpt from a GIF

How to use Crop, trim and edit animation

  1. Choose an animated source

Add one GIF, animated WebP or APNG within the decoding bounds. Check its frame size before entering crop coordinates or choosing a smaller output width.

  2. Set crop and playback speed

Enter left, top, crop width and crop height, or leave both dimensions at zero. Choose a speed factor and enable reverse if required.

  3. Choose the time window

Set start and length with the speed-adjusted timeline in mind. Choose output format, maximum width and loop behaviour, then run Create output.

  4. Play the edited result

Download and play the complete output. Check that the crop fits every frame, the selected window contains the intended motion and reversing produces a useful sequence.

Understand the settings

Output format
Choose output format according to the result you need. Available choices: GIF; WEBP; APNG. The initial selection is GIF.
Maximum width
Maximum width accepts values from 16 to 1200, using whole numbers. The initial value is 480. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Loop count (-1 = source, 0 = forever)
Loop count (-1 = source, 0 = forever) accepts values from -1 to 100, using whole numbers. The initial value is -1. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Start (seconds)
Start (seconds) accepts values from 0 to 7200, in increments of 0.1. The initial value is 0. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Length (seconds)
Length (seconds) accepts values from 0.1 to 120, in increments of 0.1. The initial value is 20. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Playback speed
Playback speed accepts values from 0.25 to 4, in increments of 0.25. The initial value is 1. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Reverse frame order
Turn “Reverse frame order” on only when it matches your intended result. The initial state is off. Read the workflow and output limitations below when this changes how the original content is processed.
Crop left
Crop left accepts values from 0 to 10000, using whole numbers. The initial value is 0. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Crop top
Crop top accepts values from 0 to 10000, using whole numbers. The initial value is 0. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Crop width (0 = unchanged)
Crop width (0 = unchanged) accepts values from 0 to 10000, using whole numbers. The initial value is 0. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Crop height (0 = unchanged)
Crop height (0 = unchanged) accepts values from 0 to 10000, using whole numbers. The initial value is 0. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.

A focused loop from a demonstration

An animation includes interface borders around the useful action. Enter a crop inside the source frame, keep speed at one and select a three-second window. Export WebP, then check every frame for clipped labels and a smooth return at the loop boundary.

Check your result

Upload a file, adjust settings and run the tool. All processing uses the local engine. Media jobs are bounded to 120 seconds; animations to 240 frames, 30 seconds and 64 million decoded pixels. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.

What to know before you start

  • Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
  • Media jobs are bounded to 120 seconds; animations to 240 frames, 30 seconds and 64 million decoded pixels.
  • Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
  • Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
  • Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.

Crop, trim and edit animation: common questions

How are speed and trimming combined?

Frame delays are adjusted by the selected speed before the time window is selected. Start and length therefore refer to that speed-adjusted timeline. Review the result when changing speed, since an earlier trim choice may select different content.

Must both crop dimensions be entered?

Yes. Set both crop width and crop height to positive values, or leave both at zero to keep the picture area unchanged. The crop rectangle must remain inside the source frame rather than extending into added padding.

Does reverse change the source file?

Reverse changes the selected output frame sequence and its associated delays. The tool writes a new animation file, so keep the source available if you want a different crop, playback direction or timing choice later.

Can I edit a long animation?

The workflow is bounded to two hundred forty decoded frames, sixty-four million decoded pixels and thirty seconds of output. A large source may exceed decoding limits before a short trim can be selected, requiring a smaller source export.

Does Crop, trim and edit animation upload files to another service?

Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.

Can I continue after changing pages?

Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
