BMP converter
Convert a Windows bitmap or make a BMP from a photo. Use BMP converter locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.
BMP converter
Convert a BMP into a format that is easier to share, or create a genuine BMP for software that requires it. JPG, PNG, WebP and other supported raster sources can be decoded and re-encoded. This changes the image container and encoding rather than simply renaming a file.
- Create a BMP for legacy software
- Turn a BMP screenshot into PNG
- Make a JPG copy of a large bitmap
How to use BMP converter
Choose a supported raster
Add one supported still image, including BMP when you want another format. Check that the source is the image version you want to preserve.
Select the destination format
Choose BMP, PNG, JPG or WebP from the output menu. Use BMP only when the receiving application specifically benefits from that image format.
Create the image copy
Run Create output to decode and encode the pixels. The source is checked as an actual image, so changing its extension alone is insufficient.
Verify the destination application
Download the result and open it where it will be used. Inspect transparency and colours, particularly when switching from a transparent PNG to BMP.
Understand the settings
- Output format
- Choose output format according to the result you need. Available choices: BMP; PNG; JPG; WEBP. The initial selection is BMP.
A bitmap for an older utility
An older utility requires a BMP background but the supplied artwork is PNG. Add the PNG, choose BMP and create the output. Open the resulting BMP in the utility and check the white treatment of any transparent regions.
Check your result
Upload a supported file, adjust the settings and create the output. Still images only; maximum 40 million decoded pixels. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.
What to know before you start
- Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
- Still images only; maximum 40 million decoded pixels.
- Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
- Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
- Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
BMP converter: common questions
Is the BMP output a renamed PNG?
No. The tool decodes the source image and writes BMP image data. The result is checked as an image after encoding, so its contents correspond to the selected output format rather than merely its extension.
Will BMP make a smaller file?
Not necessarily. BMP commonly needs more storage than formats designed for compressed photographic or web delivery. Choose PNG, JPG or WebP when compact sharing matters, and compare the actual output size for your image.
Does BMP preserve transparent pixels?
This BMP export converts the image to RGB and places transparent content on white. If the receiving workflow needs transparency, choose PNG or WebP and check that the destination application supports the selected format.
Can I convert a multipage TIFF?
These image conversions accept still, single-image inputs. A multipage TIFF must first be exported as the individual still image you need. That avoids silently losing pages when moving to a format with different capabilities.
Does BMP converter upload files to another service?
Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.
Can I continue after changing pages?
Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
