SVG optimizer

Reduce SVG markup while keeping its viewBox and element IDs. Use SVG optimizer locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.

A practical guide

SVG optimizer

Reduce unnecessary SVG markup and numeric precision while retaining viewBox, element IDs and accessibility attributes. Choose compact or readable formatting for a self-contained icon or illustration. The result remains SVG, making it useful for source control or web delivery after a visual comparison with the original artwork.

  • Compact a self-contained web icon
  • Reduce excess precision in an SVG illustration
  • Make optimized SVG source easier to review

How to use SVG optimizer

  1. Add a self-contained SVG

Upload one SVG whose required artwork is contained in the file. External resources or active content must be removed before using this optimisation workflow.

  2. Choose precision and formatting

Set numeric precision from one to eight digits and enable readable formatting if needed. Lower precision can reduce source size but may affect delicate geometry.

  3. Optimize the SVG source

Run Create output to simplify the markup under the supported preservation rules. The tool keeps the viewBox, accessibility attributes and element IDs needed by downstream uses.

  4. Compare rendering and references

Download the SVG and compare it with the original at small and large sizes. Check important element references and any fine curves affected by reduced numerical precision.

Understand the settings

Readable formatting
Turn “Readable formatting” on only when it matches your intended result. The initial state is off. Read the workflow and output limitations below when this changes how the original content is processed.
Numeric precision
Numeric precision accepts values from 1 to 8, using whole numbers. The initial value is 3. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.

A smaller icon source for a website

A self-contained SVG icon has long coordinate decimals and verbose formatting. Choose precision three and compact formatting, then create the output. Compare its outline at normal icon size and a larger zoom before replacing the website asset.

Check your result

Upload a supported file, adjust the settings and create the output. Self-contained SVGs only. Keeps viewBox, accessibility attributes and element IDs. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.

What to know before you start

  • Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
  • Self-contained SVGs only. Keeps viewBox, accessibility attributes and element IDs.
  • Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
  • Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
  • Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.

SVG optimizer: common questions

Can lower precision change the drawing?

Yes. Rounding coordinates can slightly change curves, narrow gaps or alignment, particularly in detailed artwork. Use a higher precision when geometry is sensitive and compare the rendered output instead of judging success from file size alone.

Will viewBox and IDs be removed?

This optimiser retains viewBox, element IDs and accessibility attributes under its configured preservation rules. Still check the result in its destination if scripts, styles or references elsewhere depend on particular details of the SVG markup.

Does it download linked fonts or images?

No. The input must be self-contained, and the workflow rejects unsupported external or active resources. Embed or simplify required artwork in the authoring application before optimising the SVG for use in a page or application.

Is readable formatting the smallest output?

Readable formatting adds whitespace to make source easier to inspect, while compact output is more appropriate when minimising markup size matters. Both modes use the selected numeric precision and should be checked visually before deployment.

Does SVG optimizer upload files to another service?

Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.

Can I continue after changing pages?

Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
