PDF stamps and page numbers
Add a stamp, watermark, page numbers or another PDF as an overlay. Use PDF stamps and page numbers locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.
PDF stamps and page numbers
Add a text stamp, page number, watermark or PDF overlay to selected pages. Use simple Latin-1 text with the bundled Helvetica font, or supply a second PDF for an overlay. The settings make it useful for draft labels and review copies while keeping the original document available for later edits.
- Label a PDF as a draft
- Add original-position page numbers
- Overlay a prepared letterhead PDF
How to use PDF stamps and page numbers
Choose the destination PDF
Upload the PDF to be stamped first. For overlay mode, upload the overlay PDF second; other stamp modes use the destination document alone.
Select stamp and pages
Choose text, numbers, watermark or overlay and enter page positions or ranges. Leave the page selection blank when the stamp should appear throughout the document.
Set relevant text appearance
For text-based modes, choose font size and opacity and enter a single-line Latin-1 label when needed. Run Process document after checking the text fits the page.
Review the stamped copy
Download the PDF and inspect a selected and an unselected page. Check readability, original-position numbering and whether an overlay obscures content that must remain visible.
Understand the settings
- Stamp
- Choose stamp according to the result you need. Available choices: TEXT; NUMBERS; WATERMARK; OVERLAY. The initial selection is TEXT.
- Stamp text
- Stamp text is applied to this tool job. Use the value or syntax described in the example below. The initial value is “CONFIDENTIAL”.
- Pages (blank means all)
- Pages (blank means all) is applied to this tool job. Use the value or syntax described in the example below. Leave it blank only when the field is described as optional.
- Font size
- Font size accepts values from 8 to 100, using whole numbers. The initial value is 18. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
- Text opacity (%)
- Text opacity (%) accepts values from 5 to 100, using whole numbers. The initial value is 40. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
A draft review copy
A report needs a visible draft watermark on every page. Choose watermark, enter DRAFT and set moderate opacity with a suitable font size. Create the PDF and check the label against text-heavy and image-heavy pages before distributing the review copy.
Check your result
Choose a file, adjust the settings, then download the result. Single-line Latin-1 stamps use Helvetica. For overlay, upload the destination PDF first and overlay PDF second; its existing opacity is preserved. Page numbers follow original page positions. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.
What to know before you start
- Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
- Single-line Latin-1 stamps use Helvetica. For overlay, upload the destination PDF first and overlay PDF second; its existing opacity is preserved. Page numbers follow original page positions.
- Upload up to 20 files, at least 1 with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
- Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
- Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
PDF stamps and page numbers: common questions
Do page numbers restart for selected pages?
No. Numbers follow the original physical page positions. If you stamp only pages five through eight, those pages receive their existing positions rather than a new one-through-four sequence, which helps preserve references to the source document.
Which characters can text stamps use?
Text stamps use bundled Helvetica and support single-line Latin-1 content. Multiline text and characters beyond that range are rejected. Prepare a PDF overlay with the required typography when a simple supported text label is insufficient.
How many pages can an overlay contain?
The overlay PDF must contain one page or the same number of pages as the destination. A single page is reused, while a matching multipage overlay uses the corresponding original page position for each selected destination page.
Does text opacity affect a PDF overlay?
The overlay keeps its own existing opacity rather than receiving the text-opacity control. Prepare the overlay PDF with the transparency you need and review its appearance on the destination, especially over dark graphics or dense text.
Does PDF stamps and page numbers upload files to another service?
Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.
Can I continue after changing pages?
Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
