# Passport photo / signature resizer > Browser-only file conversion. Selected files are processed on this device and are not uploaded to a conversion server. Source: https://localconverter.tech/passport-signature Create an exact-size image for a photo or signature upload using pixel dimensions, print DPI and an optional KB target. Choose a centre crop or padded fit, then export JPG or PNG. The controls help satisfy technical file requirements; you still need to check the receiving organisation’s specifications. ## Useful tasks - Resize a portrait to specified pixels - Prepare a signature image for a form - Create a photo copy with print DPI metadata ## Steps 1. **Add a suitable source**: Choose one still image with the complete face or signature visible. Read the destination’s technical requirements before entering dimensions or choosing a crop. 2. **Set pixels and fit**: Enter the required width, height and DPI, then select centre crop or padded fit. Check whether padding or trimmed edges are acceptable for your destination. 3. **Choose format and target**: Select JPG or PNG and enter a target in KB if needed. Use zero for no target; JPG can vary quality while retaining the chosen dimensions. 4. **Review technical suitability**: Run Create output and inspect the saved copy and target status. Check dimensions, framing, file size and the destination’s requirements before submitting the image. ## Settings - **Width (px)**: Width (px) accepts values from 1 to 4096, using whole numbers. The initial value is 413. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files. - **Height (px)**: Height (px) accepts values from 1 to 4096, using whole numbers. The initial value is 531. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files. - **Print DPI**: Print DPI accepts values from 72 to 1200, using whole numbers. The initial value is 300. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files. - **Fit**: Choose fit according to the result you need. Available choices: Centre crop; Pad to fit. The initial selection is Centre crop. - **Output format**: Choose output format according to the result you need. Available choices: JPG; PNG. The initial selection is JPG. - **Target KB (0 = no target)**: Target KB (0 = no target) accepts values from 0 to 10240, using whole numbers. The initial value is 0. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files. ## A signature with fixed dimensions A form asks for a 600 by 200 pixel signature image. Enter those dimensions, choose padded fit and export PNG to keep the complete signature visible. If a size limit also applies, check the actual file size before uploading it. ## Check the result Upload a supported file, adjust the settings and create the output. Editable dimensions do not guarantee acceptance by an issuing authority. Target-size success is reported honestly. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged. ## Limits - Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading. - Editable dimensions do not guarantee acceptance by an issuing authority. Target-size success is reported honestly. - Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB. - Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents. - Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first. ## Questions ### Does this guarantee passport-photo acceptance? No. Exact dimensions and a file-size target do not establish compliance with rules about expression, background, lighting or composition. Check the current requirements of the receiving organisation and inspect the final image against them. ### Can the target KB change dimensions? This tool preserves the width and height you request. With JPG it tries lower encoding quality to reach the KB target; if that is insufficient, the result reports the target status rather than silently shrinking the dimensions. ### Does PNG use the same target search? No. The bounded quality search is used for JPG. PNG is encoded and checked against the target, but the image is not automatically rescaled or repeatedly palette-reduced to force a particular size in this tool. ### When should I use padded fit? Use padded fit when the full signature or portrait must remain visible and added border space is acceptable. Centre crop fills the exact rectangle by trimming edges, which can remove parts of a wide signature. ### Does Passport photo / signature resizer upload files to another service? Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory. ### Can I continue after changing pages? Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first. ## Related guides - [Compress image](https://localconverter.tech/compress-image.md) - [Resize image](https://localconverter.tech/resize-image.md) - [Crop & rotate image](https://localconverter.tech/crop-image.md) - [HEIC / HEIF converter](https://localconverter.tech/heic-converter.md) - [JPG to JPG](https://localconverter.tech/jpg-to-jpg.md) - [JPG to PNG](https://localconverter.tech/jpg-to-png.md)
