Clean CSV & delimiters

Remove duplicate rows, trim cells and export a table with your preferred delimiter. Use Clean CSV & delimiters locally with practical instructions, output settings and.

A practical guide

Clean CSV & delimiters

Clean a delimited text table by trimming cell edges, removing empty rows and eliminating exact duplicate rows. Choose the source delimiter or automatic detection, then export comma, semicolon, tab or pipe-delimited text. Use it to prepare a small import table while preserving the distinction between row cleanup and data-type interpretation.

  • Remove duplicate rows from a CSV export
  • Convert semicolon-delimited text to comma CSV
  • Trim surrounding spaces before a table import

How to use Clean CSV & delimiters

  1. Provide the table text

Upload CSV, TSV or text, or enter the table content in the text input. Keep text within eight megabytes and the table within one hundred thousand cells.

  2. Choose input and output delimiters

Use automatic detection or select the actual source delimiter, then choose the delimiter expected by your destination. Quoted cell content must still form valid delimited data.

  3. Select cleanup operations

Enable trimming, empty-row removal and duplicate-row removal as needed, then run Create result. Deduplication compares complete rows after any selected trimming has been applied.

  4. Review the exported table

Download and inspect the output in the target importer or text editor. Check column alignment, significant spaces and row counts before replacing the original table export.

Understand the settings

Input delimiter
Choose input delimiter according to the result you need. Available choices: Detect automatically; Comma; Semicolon; Tab; Pipe. The initial selection is Detect automatically.
Output delimiter
Choose output delimiter according to the result you need. Available choices: Comma CSV; Semicolon; Tab TSV; Pipe. The initial selection is Comma CSV.
Trim surrounding spaces
Turn “Trim surrounding spaces” on only when it matches your intended result. The initial state is on. Read the workflow and output limitations below when this changes how the original content is processed.
Remove empty rows
Turn “Remove empty rows” on only when it matches your intended result. The initial state is on. Read the workflow and output limitations below when this changes how the original content is processed.
Remove duplicate rows
Turn “Remove duplicate rows” on only when it matches your intended result. The initial state is on. Read the workflow and output limitations below when this changes how the original content is processed.

A cleaner contact-list export

A semicolon-delimited export has surrounding cell spaces and repeated rows. Choose semicolon input, comma output and the desired cleanup options, then create the result. Inspect names and identifier columns as text before importing so leading zeros and meaningful spaces are handled intentionally.

Check your result

Choose a file or enter text where available. Review the settings, create your result and download the new copy. Processing stays on this computer. Input and expansion limits apply; originals are never overwritten. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.

What to know before you start

  • Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
  • Processing stays on this computer. Input and expansion limits apply; originals are never overwritten.
  • Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
  • Pasted text and uploaded text have operation-specific UTF-8 byte limits. Productivity tools accept up to 1 MiB (1,048,576 bytes); non-ASCII characters can use several bytes each. If a file is selected, it takes priority over pasted text.
  • Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.

Clean CSV & delimiters: common questions

How are duplicate rows identified?

Duplicate removal compares the complete sequence of cell values in each row, after trimming if that option is enabled. It does not merge records by one key column or decide which of two conflicting records is more authoritative.

Can trimming change meaningful data?

Yes. Trimming removes surrounding whitespace from every cell, which can be undesirable when spaces are intentional content. Disable it for such tables and inspect representative rows before using the cleaned output in another application.

Does the tool convert dates and numbers?

The workflow cleans and serializes cell text rather than inferring spreadsheet data types. A spreadsheet application may interpret values when opening the file, so control its import settings when dates, identifiers or leading zeros must remain unchanged.

Why does the output sometimes use .tsv?

Selecting a tab output delimiter creates a TSV file. Other supported delimiters use the CSV extension, so the importer still needs to know whether the actual separator is comma, semicolon or pipe when opening that result.

Does Clean CSV & delimiters upload files to another service?

Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.

Can I continue after changing pages?
