GIF to video
Turn a GIF, WebP or APNG animation into a video. Use GIF to video locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.
GIF to video
Convert a GIF, animated WebP or APNG into a regular video clip for a presentation or video workflow. Select a short segment, maximum width, quality and a solid background for transparency. The result has no audio track, so it works as a visual clip rather than a narrated video.
- Insert a GIF sequence as an MP4
- Make an animation playable in a video workflow
- Flatten transparent animation over a chosen colour
How to use GIF to video
Add the source animation
Choose one GIF, animated WebP or APNG. Inspect its length and select a useful segment instead of expecting every loop repetition to become video content.
Set the segment and appearance
Enter start and length, maximum width and a six-digit background colour for transparency. Choose the video format and quality appropriate to the destination application.
Encode the video clip
Run the conversion and wait for the new video. Transparent areas are composited onto the chosen background and the output is created without audio.
Check playback and framing
Download and play the video in the intended destination. Verify timing, colour behind transparent areas and the selected segment’s first and last visible frames.
Understand the settings
- Output format
- Choose output format according to the result you need. Available choices: MP4; WEBM; MOV; MKV. The initial selection is MP4.
- Maximum width
- Maximum width accepts values from 16 to 1920, using whole numbers. The initial value is 1280. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
- Quality (lower = better)
- Quality (lower = better) accepts values from 16 to 45, using whole numbers. The initial value is 26. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
- Start (seconds)
- Start (seconds) accepts values from 0 to 7200, in increments of 0.1. The initial value is 0. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
- Length (seconds)
- Length (seconds) accepts values from 0.1 to 120, in increments of 0.1. The initial value is 20. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
- Transparency background
- Transparency background is applied to this tool job. Use the value or syntax described in the example below. The initial value is “#ffffff”.
A short GIF in a slide deck
A five-second transparent GIF needs to play as MP4 in a presentation. Select a white background and a segment covering the animation, then convert. Play the MP4 inside the deck to confirm that the flattened background blends with the slide.
Check your result
Upload a file, adjust settings and run the tool. All processing uses the local engine. Media jobs are bounded to 120 seconds; animations to 240 frames, 30 seconds and 64 million decoded pixels. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.
What to know before you start
- Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
- Media jobs are bounded to 120 seconds; animations to 240 frames, 30 seconds and 64 million decoded pixels.
- Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
- Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
- Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
GIF to video: common questions
Will the video preserve transparency?
This workflow places transparent areas over the selected solid background and encodes a regular video. Choose a background colour suited to the destination, because the downloaded clip does not retain an editable transparent animation layer.
Does the result include audio?
No. Animation-to-video output is explicitly created without an audio track. To pair it with narration or music, use the resulting video with the Replace video audio tool and review the new clip’s timing.
Why does maximum width not enlarge the video?
The regular video encoder treats width as a maximum and avoids enlarging an already smaller frame in this workflow. Choose a suitable source size and inspect the output instead of assuming the field forces a specific larger resolution.
Can every animated WebP be converted?
Animated WebP and APNG pass through the bounded animation decoder before video encoding. Inputs must satisfy its frame, duration and decoded-pixel limits, so a very large animation may need a smaller or shorter source export.
Does GIF to video upload files to another service?
Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.
Can I continue after changing pages?
Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
